Arab League headquarters, Egypt, Egypt

Cairo (IINA) – The Arab League has reiterated its rejection of the so-called "federal system" in the Kurdish-controlled areas of northern Syria.
Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Ben Helli told reporters here on Monday that the Arab League rejects such separatist calls that compromise the unity of Syria.
He added that some of the Kurds themselves rejected such calls, saying: "The Arab League's principle with respect to the Syrian affairs is based on the unity and territorial integrity of Syria."
Ben Helli expressed the hope that the Syrians will succeed through the ongoing negotiations in Geneva to reach a political solution enabling them to get out of their prolonged crisis, and safeguard the country from its repercussions.
He stressed the need for agreement among Syrians on the transitional phase and its maturities, both with regard to elections or constitution.
The deputy secretary-general explained that after the completion of this stage and an agreement Syrians various constituents, the Syrians believe the time what they see as a political organization to develop are the owners of the inherent right to it.
He underlined that Syria's unity and its territorial integrity is a very important issue.
Ben Helli noted that "despite the absence of participation of Syria's government delegations in the meetings and councils of the Arab League, the issue of Israel's occupation of the Syrian Arab Golan remains standing item on the agenda of the Council of the Arab League and receives attention from Arabs as the rest of the occupied Arab territories as the rest of the occupied Arab territories."
He also emphasized that a unified Syria is a fundamental element for security and stability in the region, and any calls that would compromise its unity deemed unacceptable.
