U.S, Djibouti leaders hold talks to boost strategic partnership

Djibouti (IINA) – US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is currently visiting Djibouti, held talks with President Ismail Omar Guelleh. Their talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership, Government Spokesman Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said.
Youssouf, who is also the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, stressed his country's keenness to develop relations with the United States in various fields, especially in economic and security areas, describing Washington as a major partner for Djibouti.
In turn, after meeting with President Guelleh, Deputy Secretary Blinken affirmed the depth of the US-Djibouti strategic relations, pointing out that the two countries share the same vision about the challenges facing the region and combating terrorism and piracy at sea.
In addition to his meetings with Djiboutian officials, Blinken will meet with U.S. troops stationed at Camp Lemonnier. He will also visit the Migrant Response Center and Markazi Refugee Camp in Obock to discuss regional migration, humanitarian assistance and protection with refugees, local leadership, and international and non-governmental organizations.
