Sunnylands, California (IINA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and other Southeast Asian leaders have joined U.S. President Barack Obama at the two-day US-ASEAN Summit, which started here on Tuesday, BERNAMA reported.
The leaders' gathering focused on strengthening ASEAN's economic growth through innovation and entrepreneurship.
Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed joined the prime minister during the discussion on economic matters.
Malaysia, as 2015 ASEAN chair, hosted the 3rd ASEAN-US Summit in Kuala Lumpur in November last year. It was then that President Obama invited the leaders of the 10-member grouping to meet on US soil for the first time.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established in August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand. Current ASEAN members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The leaders are expected to deliberate on political and security matters including counter-terrorism, maritime and transnational issue on Wednesday.
