Cairo (IINA) – Secretary General of the Arab League Dr Nabil Elaraby has welcomed the French initiative announced Friday by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius to convene an international conference aimed to revive the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks.
In a statement issued Monday, Elaraby expressed support and appreciation for the French position calling for holding such a conference, saying that it is in line with Arab position. He stressed the need for the exertion of efforts to make the French endeavors exerted to that effect a success and to salvage the two-state solution on the basis of the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Elaraby affirmed the Arab League’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate with the French government to make its efforts in this respect a success. He called on the international community, represented by all its agencies and organizations, to put further pressure on Israel to oblige it to accept the two-state solution and to commit to the international legitimacy resolutions to bring about a final settlement to the ongoing conflict, and to establish the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
