UN envoy at press conference upon his arrival at Sana'a airport
Sana'a (IINA) – UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed arrived here on Sunday, in a bid to gather Houthis and Yemeni government in the upcoming peace talks.
Upon his arrival at Sana'a airport, the UN envoy said he will meet during the visit with the political parties in Sana'a in order to convene a new round of peace talks, in reference to Houthi armed militias, and the party of ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
“We have come to Sana’a to put in further efforts with all those concerned in order to convene a new round of talks.”
While meeting with various members of Yemen's legitimate government in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Ould Cheikh Ahmed suggested Geneva as a location for holding the peace talks due to start this month, according to Reuters.
The Yemeni government insists on having UN resolution 2216 as the basis for any future talks, in addition to releasing all prisoners detained by Houthi group and lifting the siege on the city of Taiz.
