Stockholm (IINA) – Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom on Tuesday called for an investigation on whether Israel has conducted extrajudicial executions of Palestinians during the Palestinian uprising that has erupted since the beginning of last October.
“It is vital that there is a thorough, credible investigation into these deaths in order to clarify and bring about possible accountability,” Wallstrom said during a parliamentary debate on extrajudicial executions.
The Swedish minister has recently directed a wave of criticism against the Israeli policies. About two months ago, she linked between Paris attacks and what she called "Palestinian despair", and she later stated that Israel executes Palestinian attackers without trial.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry fired back in a statement later in the day, calling Wallstom’s comments “irresponsible and delusional,” and claiming they served to “encourage violence and terrorism.”
It is noteworthy that relations between Israel and Sweden deteriorated since the latter recognized Palestine as an Independent State, shortly after Wallstrom's party gained power in 2014.
