Paris (IINA) – Delegates from Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLAM\A) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) as well as Qatari mediators met in the French capital Paris on Monday to discuss ways to bring peace in Darfur.
Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that the meeting was held following a request from both SLAM\A leader Minni Arcua Minnawi and JEM leader Gibril Ibrahim Mohammed, made through a joint message directed to Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud.
The meeting was constructive and consultations have been run in a friendly atmosphere. The talks focused on peace process in Darfur and the effective role of the Qatari meditation in achieving peace in the western Sudan's region, according to a statement issued by the trio after the meeting.
It has been agreed that both movements will release a detailed paper to Qatar Meditation on their views on the possibility of finding commonality for Darfur peace process as soon as possible, the statement said.
