OIC chief Iyad Madani

Jeddah (IINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the agreement by the delegations of the House of Representatives and the General National Congress in Libya on principles to end the conflict in the country, which was signed in Tunis on Sunday.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani appealed to all the Libyan parties to adopt this agreement which forms a basis for a political solution of Libyan crisis and for the commencement of the process of building constitutional institutions for the Libyan state on the basis of democracy, justice and equality and for warding off the dangers of terrorism threatening the unity, security and stability of Libya.
Madani renewed the readiness of the OIC to contribute to the international and regional efforts aimed at ending the suffering of the Libyan people and responding to their aspirations for reconciliation and security within a united nation.
It should be noted that the “declaration of principles”, agreed at talks in the Tunisian capital of Tunis between Libya's two rival parliaments, is intended to lead to a single government and elections within two years. UN Special Envoy to Libya Martin Kobler called it a very good basis for going forward.
