Fighting terrorism should be done through a comprehensive approach: Jordan's King

Amman, (IINA) - Jordanian King Abdullah held talks in Rome with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Presidential Palace in Rome on Thursday. Their talks figured mainly on the need to bolster cooperation and coordination among various countries and stakeholders to confront terrorism and extremism, which have become the major challenge to regional and international security, Petra reported.
During the talks, held over a banquette in honour of King Abdullah and Queen Rania, Abdullah affirmed that fighting terrorism should be done through a comprehensive approach that addresses all terrorism and extremism hotspots around the globe.
The two leaders also underlined the importance of finding a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis, to put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people, preserves the territorial integrity of Syria and mitigate the repercussions of the crisis at the regional and international levels.
King Abdullah briefed the Italian president on the burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees, at the top of which are the political and economic burdens. He also pointed to challenges pertaining to providing the Syrian refugees with health, educational and infrastructure services.
The meeting touched on the latest developments in Libya, and ways to address them in a manner that preserves the future, security and stability of the Arab nation in particular and North Africa in general.
On bilateral ties, the two leaders said they were keen to boost relations in political and economic domains, thanks to Jordan's advanced status position with the EU.
The Italian president, on his part, welcomed the visit of King Abdullah, while stressing his country's keenness to cement ties with Jordan.
He also praised King Abdullah's vision on the way to address global terrorism, as well as Jordan's efforts to support Syrian refugees. In this regard, President Mattarella urged the international community to extend more support to the Kingdom.
He noted that the two countries see eye-to-eye on ways to address the challenges facing the Middle East and Mediterranean region.
