Baghdad (IINA) – The Iraqi capital Baghdad will host on January 20-25 the 11th conference of Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.
The Iraqi House of Representatives signed an agreement in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Sunday with the General Secretariat of the OIC Parliamentary Union to host the conference, after sending invitations to the Union's all 53 member states.
Member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi House of Representatives Abbas al-Bayati was quoted by Radio Sawa as saying that "the issue of terrorism and the situation in the region will top the agenda of the conference."
He explained that the participants will share their experiences in areas of legislation relating to the fight against terrorism.
Iraqi political analyst Wathiq al-Hashem described the conference as an opportunity for Iraq to present its viewpoints on many issues.
It is to be noted that the presidency of the Iraqi House of Representatives confirmed in a statement its readiness to host the OIC Parliamentary Union conference.
The Parliamentary Union of the OIC member states (PUIC, PUOICM) is composed of the parliaments of the OIC member states. It was established in Iran in 1999, with its headquarters in Tehran.
