Khartoum (IINA) – The Sudanese Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning on Monday signed a grant agreement worth $ 22.8 million with the African Development Bank (AfDB) for financing project on water sector reform and institutional capacity development, under the supervision of the Ministry of Water Resources, SUNA reported.
Minister of Finance Badr-Eddin Mahmoud Abbas signed on behalf of the government of Sudan, whereas Resident Representative of the African Development Bank in Khartoum Abdoul Camara signed for the bank.
The project includes the reform of drinking water and sanitation in Sudan as well as building of manpower capabilities in the water and sanitation sector, and solving the problem of insufficient supply of drinking water in West Kordofan state.
Following the signing ceremony, Abbas revealed that the grant comes within the framework of the development and modernization of the water sector, and the institutional capacity-building of the workers in the water sector.
For his part, Camara said that the grant agreement was approved by the AfDB Board of Directors with a view to develop the drinking water sector in Sudan and to contribute to the construction of effective and resilient water and sanitation sector to meet all the needs of users and beneficiaries in the targeted areas.
