Amman (IINA) - Jordanian King Abdullah stressed on Sunday the importance of setting up partnerships in energy projects between Arab countries to achieve integration "in this vital sector," Petra news agency reported.
During a meeting with Iraqi Oil Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek Al Mulla at Al Husseiniyeh Palace, the King said that Jordan looks forward to the completion of an oil pipeline project between the Iraqi port of Basra and the Red Sea port of Aqaba extending to Egypt.
The King spoke about the need to take advantage of Jordan's strategic location as a hub and energy corridor in the region, and noted the Kingdom's mega energy, gas and renewable energy projects.
He stressed the importance of such projects to link the Arab countries' interests and mitigate the challenges they face in the energy sector, which is closely tied with other vital economic sectors.
The meeting tackled the growing need to implement energy linkage projects in which Jordan is considered as a pioneer and advanced regional country that had carried out electric grid linkages and alternative energy projects as well as the liquefied gas terminal in Aqaba in addition to other projects through which it is linked with regional partnerships.
The King was briefed about the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline and the future plans for its completion.
