Amman, (IINA) – Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Wednesday opened the first Jordanian-Emirati economic forum that aims at boosting trade and investment ties between the two countries, Petra news agency reported.
The forum, which is organized by the ministry of industry and trade in cooperation with the Jordan chamber of commerce and industry and attended by a senior Emirati economic delegation, will provide an opportunity to exchange views on means to forge closer trade and economic and investment ties between the two countries.
Ensour attended the launch of the first electronic training program at the Jordan chamber of industry as well as the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the ministry of industry and trade and the UAE ministry of economy to enhance cooperation in areas related to small- and medium-sized ventures as well as research and development.
Minister of industry and Trade Maha Ali said the forum comes in implementation of a decision taken in Amman in 2014 during meetings of the joint Jordanian-UAE higher committee that were co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries.
She said the volume of UAE investments in the Kingdom including in the Aqaba special economic zone that are benefiting from the investment promotion law reached $15 billion. The minister urged the public and private sectors of both countries to work to further promote trade and economic ties between Jordan and the UAE.
On his part, UAE Minister of Economy Sultan Al Mansouri said Jordan is a strategic partner of the UAE, mainly in the economic field, noting that the forum reflects willingness of both countries to strengthen bilateral relations.
He said trade exchange between the two countries stood at JD579 million last year, while the volume of UAE investments rose to more than 11 billion.
Several sessions and bilateral meetings between Jordanian and Emirati business people will also take place on the first day of the forum.
