UN chief Ban Ki-moon

New York (IINA) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is to make a surprise visit to the Occupied Palestinian Territories on Tuesday against the backdrop of the continuing escalation in violence, a UN official told AFP.
"He will arrive today for a two-day visit to Israel and Palestine," the official said on condition of anonymity.
Ban's visit comes at a time when the Palestinian territories are experiencing an outbreak of violence that threatens to turn into a full-scale uprising (Intifada) in the region.
At least 42 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in the recent clashes that triggered by increased Jewish encroachment on Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
