Beirut  (IINA) - Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Asiri on Thursday reiterated that his country is committed to its stances on Lebanon amid reported plots to assassinate the Saudi and Qatari envoys, Saudi Gazette reported quoting the Pan Arabic Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
Asiri said that he is “currently communicating with security officials in Lebanon to check the accuracy of a report carried by one of the Arabic newspapers regarding assassination plots quoting western intelligence sources”.
The diplomat said the security of the embassy and its staff, including himself, is the responsibility of Lebanese authorities, adding that this is not the first time he received such information.
“These threats and challenges will not affect Saudi stances towards Lebanon (and will not deter us) from supporting its political legitimacy," Asiri said,
Meanwhile, a high-ranking Lebanese security source denied that the Lebanese authorities have any information on such assassination attempts, adding: “The size of security threat has not changed”,  Asharq Al-Awsat reported.
