Jakarta, (IINA) - A university in the Indonesian city of Surabaya had its license suspended recently because of issuing bogus diplomas. An Indonesian government investigation discovered that the university had 10 times more graduates than the number of students admitted each year, Jakarta Globe reported.
According to the Indonesian Ministry for Research, Technology and Higher Learning evaluation team, the Artha Bodhi Iswara Economics Institute had committed many violations other than issuing fraudulent diplomas.
“For its management graduate degree program, the institute admitted 50 students a year, but the number of people graduating reached 500”, local Indonesian news reported citing an official.
The official said the institute told to conduct a management overhaul if they want to resume operating.
He also said that the campus did not commit to the reform, noting that the suspension will not be lifted until the ministry see changes in the management department of the school.
Higher Education Minister Mohammad Nasir has since May launched a campaign to crack down on the widespread trade in counterfeit university diplomas in Indonesia.
