Ankara (IINA) – Fishermen rescued on Wednesday 37 Syrian refugees, who were trying to reach a Greek Island from Turkey, after their boat capsized, Anadolu Agency reported.
Sources from the Turkish Coast Guard said that refugees, mostly women and children, were trying to reach the Greek Island of Lesvos by boat from Balikesir’s Ayvalik district, western Turkey.
The refugees, who claimed to have paid 1,100 euros per person to travel to the Greek island, were later taken on board a Turkish coast guard vessel to be handed over to the police.
