Ramallah, (IINA) - The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) called on a UN rapporteur on Saturday to investigate the Israeli killing of Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, as the growing violence is consuming more lives day by day, according to media reports.
The Secretary General of the PLO executive committee Saeb Erekat addressed a letter to the UN Rapporteur Christopher Heinz asking for an investigation in those killings.
Erekat, in the letter, officially demanded the opening of an investigation into Israel’s killing of Palestinians over the past couple of weeks of violent unrest across the West Bank, including Jerusalem, as well as in Arab communities inside the occupied land of 1948.
He said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to circumvent his international obligations in order to justify his repressive and unlawful policies, instead of ending the occupation and recognizing the rights of Palestinian people.
He slammed Netanyahu’s recent incitements against President Mahmoud Abbas as a failed attempt to divert attention from the fact that Palestinian civilians, including children, are systematically targeted and executed by the occupation forces outside the bounds of law.
He further blamed Israel for the recent escalations, stressing that Netanyahu’s ongoing incitements do not change the fact that Israel, the occupying power, is the main reason behind these escalations, as it insists on violating the international law, international humanitarian law, and the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
He stressed that peace and security can only be achieved through ending the Israeli occupation.
