Geneva, (IINA) - Qatar on Monday called on the international community to take the necessary measures to protect the Palestinian people and defend their right of having an independent state, QNA reported.
The State of Qatar condemned the violations of Israel committed against the Palestinian people. The latest was the storming of Al Aqsa Mosque, which provokes millions of Muslims around the world. This came during a statement delivered by Qatar Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Faisal bin Abdullah Al Henzab during a session held as part of the 30th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC).
Al Henzab noted that the council is in session during a time of increased human rights violations across the globe, which requires the international community to act. Qatar's Representative to the UN office added that extremism is on the rise in the world today and people of different races and religions are suffering because of that.
Regarding the Syrian crisis Al Henzab said that the fact it has entered its fifth year with no resolution looming on the horizon reflects the international community's failure as well as the lack of political will to end the crisis. The result, he added, was a disastrous humanitarian condition for the Syrian people after 250,000 were killed and millions more displaced.
In addition, the Qatari representative warned that any further deterioration in Syria will unsettle security and stability even outside of the Middle-East.
As for Yemen, the Qatari official said that Houthi militias and forces of deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh are determined to undermine the legitimate authority in Yemen. As a result they have committed a series of violations of human rights. Al Henzab concluded that those actions require the international community to force Houthi militias to respect international resolutions, more specifically UN resolution 2216 of 2015.
Al Henzab concluded his speech by saying that Qatar is committed to cooperating with the United Nation bodies concerned with promoting human rights.
