Beirut (IINA) – Lebanon's Prime Minister Tammam Salam received here on Monday his British counterpart David Cameron, who vowed to continue his country's support for Lebanese troops fighting the extremists of the so-called Islamic State group.
Salam voiced his commitment to "the continuation of cooperation between the two countries and thanked the British premier for his country's efforts to support the Lebanese army and security forces in order to strengthen their capabilities in the battle waged against terrorism, according to Lebanon News Agency.
"We have agreed with Mr. Cameron that the success in tackling terrorism in the region lies in strengthening moderation and working towards comprehensive peace," he said.
Salam said that they also discussed the crisis of Syrian refugees, whose number continued to grow in Lebanon.
"The refugee crisis that today has reached the heart of Europe is a phenomenon that will not stop expanding unless a political solution is reached that stops the war in Syria," Salam said, adding that the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon has reached 1.5 million and it is increasing.
