Makkah, (IINA) – The Directorate General of Civil Defense has formed a new team within its troops, as an implementation to its general plan for Hajj 1436H, allocated for emergencies works, mountain rescue operations and detention accidents of pilgrims in mountainous areas in the Holy sites.
Director of Training, Civil Defense Management for Hajj, Brig. Gen. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Duaij, said that the mountain rescue team, who participates this year represents a nucleus of a number of well-trained qualified troops, designed for presenting rescue works in high mountain areas and steep slopes across the Kingdom.
He added that, this team is fully prepared and well-supplied with necessary equipment to provide direct treatment to the accidents caused by some pilgrims because of climbing mountains in Mina and Muzdalifah and Arafat.
According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Brig. Gen. Al-Duaij expressed confidence in the performance of the mountain rescue team, due to the highest degree of readiness, which represents a qualitative addition to the formations of Civil Defense for Hajj this year.
The Civil Defense Management initiative for composing a mountain rescue team, came in light of analytical studies for assumptions of risks and statistics of accidents occurred during the Hajj seasons in the past years.
For his part, the head of the rescue mountain team Cap. Fawaz Al-Qahtani said that planning for the composition of the team, and participating within the civil defense forces this year, had begun some time ago.
"Our forces have undergone intensive training in all security areas that are connected to pilgrims and the holy sites,” Al-Qahtani said, adding that the training has been given to prepare them for readiness and willingness to carry out their tasks.
It is noteworthy that the Civil Defense general plan includes all assumptions and measures seen necessary to counter perceived risks of fire, rain, natural, industrial, health and environmental risks in Makkah, Madinah and holy sites.
