UN: Israel escalates demolition and displacement in Palestine

Jerusalem, (IINA) - The United Nation (UN) statement issued on Friday announced that the Israeli Occupation Authorities (IOA) have demolished 63 houses and other structures this week alone, The Palestinian Information Center reported.
The statement added that "This week’s demolitions have dislodged 132 people, 82 of which were children, accounted for a quarter of the dislodged from demolitions in 2015 and marked the highest number of people rendered homeless from demolitions since November 2012".
The statement uncovered, that since the beginning of the current year, the IOA has demolished at least 356 buildings, 81 of which were funded by international aid.
“These demolitions occurred in parallel with Israeli settlement expansions”, noted Robert Piper, Coordinator for Humanitarian and UN Development Activities for the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
Piper also pointed out, that Israel is aiming to relocate 7,000 of the Bedouin residents in the West Bank to the Jordan Valley which is considered by the UN and human rights defenders a forced displacement.
Director of UN Relief and Works Agency operations in West Bank, Felipe Sanchez, stated that "Many of these refugee families have now been displaced four times in the last four years”.
