Ariha, Syria, (IINA) - At least 27 people were killed and dozens injured when a Syrian army fighter jet crashed into a busy marketplace in the rebel-held northwestern town of Ariha on Monday,  news agencies reported quoting residents and witnesses.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the warplane came down in the centre of Ariha, destroying several homes and killing at least 27 people.
The military plane had dropped a bomb at the main commercial street in the heart of the city centre where shopkeepers open in the early morning before crashing in the middle of the marketplace, two witnesses told Reuters.
The Observatory said the jet was not shot down.
It was not immediately clear whether the jet - which is understood to be a Syrian government plane, was shot down.
