Jeddah, (IINA) - The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the massacre perpetrated by the Syrian air force on a crowded popular market in the village of Duma, and other areas of Damascus suburb in which hundreds of innocent civilians were killed and wounded.
Iyad Madani, decretary heneral of OIC, strongly condemned the continuous killings targeting civilians and the use of internationally proscribed bombs, calling at the same time on the international community to take urgent measures to stop the continuous bloodshed in Syria and protect the people.
Madani reiterated, in a statement, the support of the OIC for the legitimate demands of the Syrian people and called on the Syrian regime to desist from the use of the means of war, extermination and torture against its own citizens.
He underscored the OIC’s support for all regional and international initiatives to find a political solution to the crisis that will end the suffering of the Syrian people, stop the killing and destruction, and meet the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, justice and equality.
On the other side, the OIC chief welcomed the presidential statement issued by the Security Council on17 August, which called for the launch of a political process to resolve the Syrian crisis as part of comprehensive implementation of the Geneva 1 communiqué.
