400,000 Yemenis corrected their status

Riyadh (IINA) – Some 1,500 certified documents with proper identity are issued on average to Yemenis from the Jazan region daily. More than 400,000 Yemenis have corrected their residency status from all parts of the Kingdom.
The announcement was made during a visit to the Yemeni correction centers in the Jazan region by a special team headed by Maj. Gen. Jamaan Al-Ghamdi, assistant director general for security affairs. The committee comprised officials from the Ministries of Interior, Labor and the Office of the Directorate General of Passports. Following his meeting with officials, Al-Ghamdi said a maximum of 2,000 Yemenis are given documents daily to legalize their stay in the Kingdom.
He said the authorities have made arrangements for Yemeni expatriates to transport them from the correction facility to the foreign affairs center to issue their identity documents. Al-Ghamdhi was accompanied by Maj. Gen. Saad Al-Askar, military adviser to the Director General of Passports, Director of General Department of Public Relations and Media of the Passports Directorate Col. Mohammed Al-Saad and Lt. Col. Zayed Al-Otaibi from the Directorate General of Immigration.
On a directive from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, 46 correction centers were set up in all parts of the Kingdom to help illegal Yemenis, who were in the Kingdom before April 9, obtain legal papers to legally stay and work in the country.
Al-Ghamdi said the royal decree provided a good opportunity for illegal Yemeni overstayers to legalize their residency status. The correction operation will also include prisoners and those with criminal records. According to correction procedures, each Yemeni will be issued a six-month renewable “visitor’s card” that will allow its holder to work in the private sector
