World Bank grants Sudan $20 million in support for Great Green Wall

Khartoum (IINA) – Sudan's Minister of Environment and Natural Resources and Urban Development Hassan Abdel Qader Hilal has said Sudan will receive $20 million from the World Bank, as part of the bank's support to the Great Green Wall (GGW) of the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative.
“Sudan will received $20 million from the World Bank, in support for the GGW in six Sudanese states, namely; Kassala, Al-Jazirah, White Nile, River Nile, Northern and North Kurdufan,” the minister was quoted by Sudan News Agency (SUNA) as saying.
He added that Sudan has already received $8.3 million from the total amount for the implementation of the project in the above-mentioned states, pointing out that his country has the largest GGW stretch of 1,520 km long and 25 km wide.
It may be mentioned here that a delegation headed by Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir is taking part in the two-day regular Summit of the Pan-African Agency of the Great Green Wall, which is due to convene Monday in th Mauritanian capital Nouakchott.
