Jakarta (IINA) – Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) on Sunday opened Al-Mubarakiya Crafts’ School and a hall in Banda Aceh, the capital of Indonesia’s province of Aceh, as part of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Village.
The project was named after the late Emir of Kuwait in appreciation for his humanitarian efforts all over the world, KRCS chairman Dr Hela Al-Sayer told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The village project was first initiated by the Society’s late chairman Barjas Al-Barjas, who exerted great efforts to aid people in Indonesia on all levels, said Al-Sayer.
The village, located in the area previously struck by tsunami in 2004, contains 150 houses, a mosque, a medical center, in addition to Al-Mubarakiya School, he added.
Meanwhile, the chairman said that KRCS contributed to rebuilding Banda Aceh after the deadly tsunami disaster, pointing out that the Society had carried several projects in the area, which was also struck by multiple earthquakes, including water purification stations, infrastructure, and orphanage, as well as providing fishing boats, road construction equipment, and relief supplies.
