Baku to host the International Chemistry Olympiad soon

Baku, (IINA) - The 47th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) will be held in the Azerbaijanian capital Baku, on July 20-29, according to media reports.
About 80 countries will participate in the Olympiad organized by the Committee of IChO. IChO is an annual academic competition for high school students. It is one of the International Science Olympiads. Other scientific academic events which are organized annually by IChO include: Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), Astronomy (IAO), Biology (IBO), Informatics (IOI), Mathematics (IMO), Physics (IPhO), Geography (IGeO), Philosophy (IPO), Linguistics (IOL), Junior Science (IJSO), and Earth Science (IESO).
The Ministry of Education in Azerbaijan signed a relevant order for the 47th IChO to be held at a high level.
An Organizing Committee of the major science event has been set up under the chairmanship of Prof. Nargiz Pashayeva, head of the Baku Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The rules for the selection of candidates for the national team that will in the Olympiad have been approved since last January.
According to the rules, selection process will be held on chemistry among the students of secondary schools for selection of candidates for the national team that take part in the Olympiad. 10th and 11th graders will be involved in the selection process.
The winners of the final stage of selection will participate in the preparatory sessions of the IChO to take place in the Baku Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The selection process involves holding regional and national Olympiad competitions, all three stages will be held by experts of the Baku branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The first IChO took place in the former Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic) in 1968. While the 46th event was held in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2014 where 300 students from 75 countries participated.
Many Muslim students participate in the major science event including Azerbaijani pupils, who started to take part in Olympiad since 2002, and until now they have won 24 medals, including five gold and silver each, and 14 bronze.
