Aden (IINA) – Yemen's Minister of Transport Badr Mubarak Basalma said that a specialized technical team from the United Arab Emirates arrived in Aden to re-operate the city's international airport within 24 hours.
He added that a new portable Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) was brought to replace the existing invalid one, so that flights to and from Aden could be resumed within the coming hours.
Basalma stated that his ministry also agreed with the Public Works director to hire contractors to rehabilitate the port during the next two days. He called on the international organizations to start heading towards the ports of Aden and its airport to deliver humanitarian aid, saying that the city was previously deprived of relief under the pretext of a lack of security, Al-Masdar Online reported.
With regard to the government's priorities, the minister said that the main problem now is the water and electricity outages that affected four directorates. He stressed that it is critical that those services are returned to the cities urgently.
Basalma called on the human rights organizations to visit Aden and watch the terrible tragedies committed by the Houthis in the city. He also extended an invitation to all journalists and media figures to come to Aden, affirming the government's readiness to coordinate flights for them from any airport in the world to facilitate their trips to the city, in order to prepare reports on what had happened there.
For his part, head of the Resistance Coordination Council Nayef al-Bakri emphasized that there are security and military plans to clean up some other parts of Aden, Lahij and Abyan over the next few days.
Al-Bakri dismissed rumors circulating about violations against the prisoners of war of the Houthi and Saleh militias.
"We will not allow any abuses against the prisoners of war who surrendered. We call on the remainder (of militias) to surrender, we guarantee their safety," al-Bakri affirmed. He added that they have to surrender to the district dignitaries or imams, noting that dozens of the Republican Guards and Houthis have already surrendered, while several others are currently doing so in Tawahi, a district of Aden.
It is noteworthy that the government delegation in Aden held on Saturday a press conference to brief on the latest developments in the city, relating to the security situation, humanitarian arrangements and the government's priorities for the next phase.
