Kuala Lumpur (IINA) – Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said the United Arab Emirates (UAE) strongly supports Malaysia's initiatives on humanitarian assistance for migrants, BERNAMA reported.
This was conveyed to Anifah, who was on a two-day visit to Abu Dhabi, during the meeting with his counterpart Sheikh Abdullah Zayed Al Nahyan, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement here on Sunday.
It was reported that Sheikh Abdullah also expressed UAE's readiness to collaborate in providing humanitarian assistance.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the matter of irregular movement of people in Southeast Asia and reiterated that Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair, will address the issue, especially on the pressing humanitarian needs of the migrants.
They also discussed bilateral issues and matters of mutual concern to the region in general and to Muslims in particular.
Anifah also explored many areas of cooperation aimed at broadening the existing comprehensive relations with UAE, the statement said.
"The visit has indeed enhanced the long-standing close bilateral ties between Malaysia and United Arab Emirates," the statement added.
