Islamabad (IINA) – The Pakistan Foreign Office said Islamabad will support a resolution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), titled ‘The Situation of the Muslim Community in Myanmar’ which will be presented at the 42nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, which will begin in Kuwait on Wednesday, Geo News reported.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Foreign Office expressed deep concern at the plight of the minority Muslim community in Myanmar. The Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement that the current displacement of a large number of Muslims who are adrift on boats in the Indian Ocean without access to food and drinking water is worrisome.
He said that at the 28th session of Human Rights Council in March 2015, Pakistan, in its capacity as OIC Group Coordinator for Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues at the Council in Geneva, stressed the need for Myanmar government to grant citizenship and other rights to Rohingya Muslims.
Pakistan urged the authorities of Myanmar to take all necessary measures to restore stability and launch a comprehensive reconciliation process in Rakhine State.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz addressed a letter to OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani on May 20, urging the Council of Foreign Ministers to take all necessary measures, during its 42nd session in Kuwait, to rescue and rehabilitate the displaced Rohingya Muslims.
