World Bank to help Mauritania’s gas, power projects

Nouakchott, Mauritania (IINA) - The World Bank (WB) has renewed its intent to support the project for the production of electricity from the Banda gas well situated off Mauritania’s coast, which is also supposed to supply electricity to neighboring Senegal and Mali, Naija247news reported.

This announcement was made on Tuesday by Vera Songwe, the Regional Director of WB’s operation in Mauritania, Cape Verde, the Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Senegal.

”The World Bank supports this project as a model for regional cooperation and integration, Songwe said at the end of a meeting with Mauritanian President Muhammad Ould Abdel Aziz.

The meeting between President Aziz and top officials of the international financial institution took place in the presence of the ministers for energy from Mauritania, Senegal and Mali.

It is noteworthy that in case the project was completed, the plant will have a capacity of 180 megawatts.
