Bremen, Germany (IINA) - Police in the northwestern German city of Bremen said on Saturday that they had received information "from a federal authority" about "activities of potential extremist offenders,” Deutsche Welle reported.

They said that "coordinated and appropriate security measures" were being taken to combat the threat of a terrorist attack, including in public places.

A police spokesman told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) news agency that all relevant buildings were being protected.

People in Bremen were said to have remained relaxed despite the apparent threat. A Bundesliga match between Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg at the Weser stadium was scheduled to go ahead as planned on Sunday.

On Saturday evening, police searched an Islamic cultural center near the railway station, refusing to give any details of the operation for the moment. Heavily armed police were sighted in the city throughout the day, protecting places of special significance such as Jewish community sites, the town hall and the marketplace.

About two weeks ago, police in the northern city of Braunschweig canceled a Carnival parade after receiving concrete information about possible attacks.

It is also noteworthy that since the beginning of the year, German authorities have warned of the potential danger of attacks by extremists on several occasions.
