day of equinox (day and night hours are equal)

Kuwait (IINA) – Kuwaiti astronomer and historian Adel Al-Saadoun said that day and night will have equal hours on Monday in Kuwait.

Al-Saadoun said the sun will rise 5:57am and sunset will be at 5:57pm, thereby the length of day and night will exactly be 12 hours each.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Saadoun said that the day of equinox on Earth is general marked on March 20, as the sun passes directly over the equator and descends north toward the Tropic of Cancer.

He explained that each country has its specific day of equinox when light and darkness are equal, depending on where they are located in relation to the equator.

The astronomer said the countries that fall north of the equator have their equal hours of day and night before March 21, depending on their heights in relation to the equator, and countries that fall south of the equator have their day of equinox after March 21.

He stated that on June 22, the summer solstice, which has the longest period of daylight and the shortest night, will occur and the sun's zenith is at its furthest point from the equator, being directly above the Tropic of Cancer (23.5 degrees north).
