Wednesday 11 Feb 2015 - 09:56 Makkah mean time-22-4-1436 NBC’s Brian Williams suspended 6 months for fake Iraq war story. (Google image) New York, (IINA) - Brian Williams, the NBC News anchor and the managing editor of Nightly News has been suspended for six months without pay following his continued misrepresentation of events surrounding his coverage of the Iraq War story, NBC said Tuesday night, news agencies reported.
The NBC News president Deborah Turness commented on the decision that Williams “misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003.”
She added that the organization will continue its review of Williams’ work while he serves his suspension, and Lester Holt will continue to take his place on ‘NBC Nightly News.’
“The story actually started with a terrible moment a dozen years back during the invasion of Iraq when the helicopter we were traveling in was forced down after being hit by an RPG,” Williams said. “Our traveling NBC News team was rescued, surrounded and kept alive by an armor mechanized platoon from the US Army 3rd Infantry.”
Williams apologized last week for saying he was in a helicopter that was hit by a RPG while covering the Iraq War in 2003. Instead, it turns out he was in a different group of helicopters and was not hit.
NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke said in a statement "By his actions, Brian has jeopardized the trust millions of Americans place in NBC News. His actions are inexcusable and this suspension is severe and appropriate,”
