Egypt strikes IS targets in Libya following execution of 21 Egyptians

Monday 16 Feb 2015 - 13:25 Makkah mean time-27-4-1436 Cairo (IINA) – Egypt army said Monday that its fighter jets carried out surprise airstrikes against targets belonging to the Islamic State (IS) extremists in Libya after posting a video showing the execution of 21 Egyptians. "We stress that avenging Egyptians and seeking retribution from murderers and criminals is a duty that we must fulfill," the military said in a statement, noting that the airstrikes hit IS targets, including camps, weapons depots, and places of gathering and training. "The strikes have achieved their objective with precision," the statement said, affirming that the Egyptian fighter jets returned to their bases safely. The Armed Forces will remain the protective shield and guarantor of Egypt’s security, it added. AB/IINA
