Algiers (IINA) – The Algerian Criminal Court will open on Monday the trial of 41 people, including al-Qaeda leader in the Islamic Maghreb and leader of Jund al-Khilafah (Soldiers of the Caliphate), Algeria's ISIS-linked group.

Algerian Press Service (APS) quoted on Sunday the public prosecutors as saying that these terrorist organizations mainly target the security personnel and National People's army, leading to the deaths of many of them in ambushes in the areas of the capital Algiers and Boumerdes, in the country’s north.

The defendants were charged with counts of murder with premeditation, belonging to armed terrorist groups aimed at terrorizing the people, and prejudicing the security of citizen population, in addition to inciting terrorist acts and financing armed terrorist groups.

Twenty-six of the 41 defendants are still fugitives, including Abdelmalek Droukdel, leader of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, while Abdelmalek Gouri, former leader of Jund al-Khilafah, was killed recently at the hands of the military.
