UN Envoy Ahmed: No timeframe for Yemen peace talks

UN Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed

Kuwait (IINA) – UN Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said Tuesday that the meeting of Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah with Yemen's delegations led to the breakthrough in talks, adding that no timeframe has been set for the intra-Yemeni peace negotiations.
The envoy explained that there has been many breaches of the truce in the recent period in the city of Taiz, adding that "comprehensive negotiations" would start on Wednesday in line with UN Security Council resolution 2216, which is seen as a basis for any peace plan.
He said no timeframe has been set for the talks which should continue as necessary to achieve a "comprehensive peaceful settlement."
"We don't want to go back to Yemen without a peaceful settlement," Ould Cheikh Ahmed said.
It is to be noted that the government delegation has submitted a complaint to the UN envoy about the continuous ceasefire violations by the militias.
