Istanbul, (IINA) - The 13th Islamic Summit of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), kicked off here today with the participation of more than 30 heads of state and government, along with the heads of parliaments and foreign ministers of 56 OIC member states.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani stressed, during his speech at the opening session, that the organization supports the Arab coalition to restore the legitimate efforts of Yemen and its political solution.
On the Palestinian situation, Madani noted that this issue remains OIC’s core issue. He pointed out on the other side, that the Jakarta summit called the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to issue a decision to put an end for the occupation and establish a Palestinian state."
The chief also appealed on Palestinian factions to resolve their differences in order to form a Palestinian consensus government.
Madani said that OIC has put the fight against terrorism as it main priority but the OIC agreement in this regard was ratified by only 21 member states.
He announced that the OIC is working with Iraq to hold the 2nd Makkah conference in order to achieve the reconciliation in that country, which is witnessing conflicts on more than one level.
In addition, secretary general called also to have a peaceful solution to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh region, stressing to communicate with the Iraqi authorities to hold a new conference for the reconciliation.
Regarding the Muslim communities in Korea, China and Crimea, Madani pointed out that the organization is following-up them to ensure that they get their rights, calling on all members to recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
He renewed the call for the organization to raise the “unfair US sanctions" against Sudan.
The secretary general appealed also to the development of humanitarian work in the organization, announcing that the 14th edition of "Islamic Summit" will be held in Gambia in 2018.
