Istanbul, (IINA) - The 13th Islamic Summit of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is set to begin here today, will urge member states who have yet to re-open embassies in Somalia, to do so in order to strengthen bilateral ties between Somalia and the member states.
The Islamic summit is also keen to play a more active role in the international fora regarding Somalia’s future.
An OIC source told the International Islamic News Agency (IINA) that the conference will reiterate its full support to the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia to achieve a comprehensive national reconciliation, and establish a lasting peace in the country.
“The summit will renew its condemnation of acts of terrorism perpetrated by Al-Shabab group who are still working to destabilize the country and the region,” he added.
It is noteworthy that Somalia has prepared recently the six pillars of a plan to address the challenges facing the country, a plan that will push the Istanbul summit to support it in a coordinated manner and durable, to be implemented in accordance with the obligations of both the international community and Somalia as part of the reconstruction process.
