Michigan, (IINA) - A Muslim American came into the limelight for practicing his right to freedom of speech in Donald Trump’s election rally in Michigan, Pakistan's The Nation newspaper reported.
Sayed Saqib Hussain Javed Radawi, who is an American Muslim born of parents from Pakistan and a pre-law student at Wayne State University, studying Criminal Justice, was kicked out of the election rally. Saqib Javed is one of the few who stood up fearlessly against Trump to show his dislike for his ideas.
Speaking to The Nation, Saqib Javed said, “People thought I was there to support Trump. When I started chanting ‘Not all Muslims are terrorists; not all Mexicans are rapists,’ the crowd got hostile. I was five feet away from Trump. He told the police to take me out of the rally and the police said if I didn't leave I would be arrested.”
He further said, “My (US) constitutional right of free speech was violated. This is injustice. There is no freedom in the US anymore. Trump can say all the bigoted comments he wants to against anyone but when someone speaks up against him, they get threatened and are told they will be arrested. I was also dressed in my traditional clothing to remind that America is a melting pot full of people of different diversities, religion, ethnicity, and race.”
Since the start of the current presidential election campaign in the United States, Trump speeches have been criticized as being full of hate, racism and animosity against the minorities, especially Muslims in America. While some have welcomed his thoughts, others have rejected and condemned him for his ideas.
Trump’s hate speeches have started receiving a reaction from the masses in the US. In the past few months, there has been a drastic rise in hate crimes and people have started fearing for their lives. Saqib said, “There have been many hate crimes against the Muslim community. Hate is at its high peak. It is so scary to see that the American people have given Trump a platform where he can say bigoted and racist things without being reprimanded. Majority of the Americans are rejecting his racist campaign. While the others feel, he is doing all this to keep everyone safe.
“There’s a lot of hatred in the world. We don’t need Trump to use fear tactics to gain votes or to make people go against each other. Before I even grasped the concept of my religion, I knew that I was human. I had morals, I had values, I was taught right and wrong. People should not forget their human morals, their human intuition, being kind to people, being respectful – human values that are always there.”
He spoke on behalf of the Muslim Americans to The Nation saying, “I speak as the voice of hundreds of Muslim Americans, and we are not terrified. This is the land of the free, the land of the brave. I stand freely and bravely against the racists in this nation.”
“Due to hate speeches and targeted crimes against the Muslims many are thinking of leaving the US if Trump wins the elections,” he said. “They will leave if Trump becomes president. I think it’s such a double standard though; we Americans feel that we are entitled to move wherever we want but when other people facing real turmoil want to come to America, it becomes a sensitive issue, we reject them. Why should people welcome us to seek refuge, when we don’t give others the same opportunity?”
