OIC holds roundtable discussion on civil society’s role in electoral processes

Jeddah (IINA) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) organized, in collaboration with the UN Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD), here on July 27-29 a Roundtable Discussion on the Role of Civil Society and Domestic Observer Groups in Enhancing the Integrity of Electoral Processes.
Participants in the three-day event included, besides UNEAD experts and OIC professional staffs, election experts from the Arab League, National Democratic institute (NDI) and Organization of American States (OAS) as well as civil society organizations involved in the electoral from Indonesia, Lebanon, Nigeria, Tunisia, Colombia and the Philippines.
They shared their respective experiences on the role of civil society in electoral process. They also discussed and analyzed the electoral processes followed in different parts of the world from different perspectives which gave the participants an in-depth view on the entire electoral process that could be useful in the future election observation missions of the OIC.
