Kuwait City (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani delivered a statement during at the opening ceremony of the 22nd session of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), current being held in the capital city of Kuwait.

In his statement, Madani extended gratitude and appreciation to Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah for graciously approving Kuwait’s hosting the current session of the IIFA council.

He said: "You are all aware of the difficulties, dangers and challenges facing our Ummah at the internal level, like blind ideological extremism, bigotry and sectarianism, which if not halted, will lead – God forbid – to the destruction of the nation's unity and identity. The other problem driven externally by hatred that seeks to erode the identity of the Muslim nation, and by greed which seeks to control and dominate the capabilities of the Ummah, as well as to plunder its resources and halt its progress”.

The Secretary General said that Jerusalem faces a heinous attack from the Zionist entity, whose objective is to obliterate the landmarks of the city and strip it of its Arab and Islamic identity. Recalling his visit to Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Madani reiterated that such a visit and engagement with the Jerusalemites, would confirm to the occupying power and the entire world the eternal right of Muslims to the holy city.

The current session of the Fiqh Academy is discussing several issues pertaining to the rights and obligations of non-Muslims in Islamic countries. Other issues being discussed include empowerment of women, general jurisdiction, visiting Jerusalem, excommunication and Jihad, as well as other economic issues relating to halal food products and medications, besides the rights of people with disabilities.
