Cairo (IINA) – Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday that 25,529 Egyptians have returned home from Libya through the Salloum border crossing and Djerba Airport in Tunisia.

The ministry explained that 21,407 Egyptians returned overland through the Salloum crossing on the Libyan-Egyptian borders, while another 4,122, who crossed into Tunisia, were flown home aboard EgyptAir from Djerba Airport.

Egypt carried out airstrikes against Islamic State (IS) targets in Libya on February 16 in retaliation for the beheadings of 21 Egyptians and strongly urged its nationals to leave the war-gripped country.
