Ramallah (IINA) – Thousands of Palestinians marched Saturday in the West Bank in protest against the latest blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), published by French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, AFP reported.

Answering calls by the Liberation Party, demonstrators rallied in the cities of Ramallah and Hebron, some carrying banners expressing faith in Islam and others wearing black headbands calling for the establishment of a Muslim caliphate, AFP photographers said.

The protests were called in response against a cartoon published by Charlie Hebdo a week after French gunmen attacked the magazine’s office in Paris on January 7, killing 12 people.

The latest cartoons of Prophet Muhammad by the magazine sparked angry protests across the Muslim world, some of which turned deadly.

There were several demonstrations in the Palestinian territories, notably in Gaza City last Monday, where some 200 people tried to storm the French cultural center and burned French flags.

The political and religious authorities in Gaza condemned both the Charlie Hebdo's cartoons and the deadly attack on its office.
