Istanbul (IINA) – The Commission on Economic Affairs and Environment, emanating from the Parliamentary Union of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), called for increasing intra-trade, reducing trade barriers and facing the unilateral and multilateral sanctions imposed against the peoples of the OIC countries.

The Commission, on the sidelines of the 10th session of the Union conference held here on Monday, called for Inter-parliamentary cooperation in response to natural disasters, especially through the provision of relief and support to the economic institutions, which are active in the field of development in the Islamic world.

The Commission also called on the OIC countries to focus on the issues of environment, sustainable development and combating desertification, particularly in the coastal countries of Africa. It further called for the conservation of water resources in the member states and the fight against sand and dust storms, as well as scientific and technical cooperation among the Union Member Parliaments, and to strengthen cooperation in the field of environmental protection and the fight against climate change.
