Surgery

Tirana (IINA) – The Department of Pediatric heart surgery at the “Mother Theresa University Hospital Center" in the Albanian capital of Tirana will soon acquire new set of specialized cardiac-surgery equipment.

The procedures for purchasing the new equipment have already been initiated, thanks to the financial contribution of Muslim communities and the support of Italian physicians, who have been supporting Albania's pediatric cardiology unit for years.

Although the new medical instruments are estimated to cost more than 70.000 euro, the Albanian authorities will have to pay only 1/5 of that amount, thanks to the financial support to be provided by Italian medical team.

It is worth mentioning that the Mother Theresa's surgical heart unit is the only one of its kind in the country that conducts cardiac surgeries on young children. So far, it has successfully conducted more than 200 surgeries.
