Tehran (IINA) – Iran started on Thursday massive military exercises near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, involving ground, navy and air force units.

The weeklong exercise will be carried out over 2.2 million square kilometers, extending from the East of the Strait of Hormuz to the southern parts of the Gulf of Aden.

“The maneuvers are being held to display Iran’s military power,” Russia Today (RT) quoted Iran’s Navy Chief Habibollah Sayyari, as saying.

In relevant remarks earlier this month, Iranian Ground Force Commander Lieutenant General Ahmad Reza announced that his forces will test-fire new weapons during the drills.
