Vientiane (IINA) – Artifacts dating back 2,500 years have been unearthed at a mine site in southern Laos, Xinhua news agency reported citing local media.

People searching for unexploded ordnance from past wars at the PeunBaolo site of the MMG LXML Sepon mine – a subsidiary of the Australian Mining Group Minerals & Metals Group – found a bronze drum from the Dong Son era, said state-run media Vientiane Times.

Crucibles, copper ingots, jewelry and ceremonial items are also among the relics uncovered at the site.

A statement from MMG LXML Sepon said excavations at the site had uncovered evidence of ancient copper mining shafts and copper ingots traded across Southeast Asia in the old days.

The bronze drum is now on display at the National Museum in Vientiane.
