Palestinian prisoner is victim of Israeli medical negligence

Ramallah, (IINA) - A Palestinian inmate with multiple diseases is suffering from medical negligence in Israeli jails, WAFA reported quoting the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission.
The 33-year-old Ibrahim Abu Mustafa is suffering from multiple problems in his heart, kidneys, and stomach, in addition to neurological disorders, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol levels.
The commission said the Israeli prison administration provides Abu Mustafa only with over the counter painkillers despite the fact that his condition has never been diagnosed, noting that he takes around 38 pills a day.
The commission pointed to the deliberate medical negligence towards Abu Mustafa by the Israeli prison authorities in Asqalan, where he is being incarcerated.
Abu Mustafa, a prisoner from Gaza, was detained in March 2003 and is sentenced to 15 years in jail.
According to human rights groups, medical negligence has been employed as a systematic policy in Israeli jails.
The prisoner rights group Addameer asserts that the Israeli Prison Service maintains a systematic policy of medical negligence toward Palestinian detainees.
The Palestine Detainees Studies Center said around 60% of the Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli jails, suffer from chronic diseases, a number of whom died in detention or after being released due to the severity of their cases caused by a deliberate medical negligence policy.
